Like most desserts coming from the Middle East, baklava is best enjoyed soaking in syrup. So, let it sit for 48 hours so that it absorbs all of it perfectly!

How to make Mary Jane Baklava?

  • 1 1/2 pounds (680 grams) chopped walnuts

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

  • 3 teaspoons cinnamon

  • 3 sticks butter

  • 1/2 ounce (14 grams) powdered Cannabis

  • 16 ounces (454 grams) filo dough

  • 1 1/2 cup water

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

  • 2 cups honey

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

  1. Preheat the oven to 300ºF (150ºC)

  2. Mix powdered Cannabis with butter. Mind to save 2 tablespoons of butter out of the mixture.

  3. Butter your baking pan (preferably 10×15 inches) with the 2 tablespoons of unused butter.

  4. Use 10 layers of filo dough. Butter generously each layer with your Cannabis butter. Try to preserve 1/3 of your butter after buttering all 10 layers.

  5. If the filo dough does not perfectly fit in your baking pan, cut off the excess dough from the sides. Do not grease the extra filo dough that does not fit in the pan.

  6. Combine the walnuts with 1 cup of sugar.

  7. Spread the mixture in the pan neatly.

  8. Repeat the same buttering process with 5 more layers of dough. Cut them a bit bigger than the pan.

  9. Bake for 50 minutes.

  10. While the baklava is in the oven, combine together the rest of the sugar, with water, lemon, vanilla, and spices.

  11. Put mixture on medium heat and cook in pan until it becomes syrupy.

  12. Add honey in the syrup and cook for one more minute.

  13. When the baklava is ready, take it out of the oven and cut it into 5x5cm pieces.

  14. Immediately spoon the syrup over the baklava.

  15. Let the baklava completely cool off before serving.
