Pipes vs Bongs: All You Need To Know

Posted 3 years ago by Ian Shutts

There has been quite some talk about the various benefits one can derive by consuming marijuana. It was first legalized medicinally in California in 1996 with the passage of Prop 215. Today, cannabis is slowly being legalized state by state; not only for medicinal use but in many cases also for recreational purposes.

There are many different ways to burn down, but the most popular ones are with the use of a pipe or a bong. If you are new to smoking, you should most definitely understand the difference between the two so that you can make a well informed decision about how to consume your plant.

A Dry Pipe

A dry pipe is usually small compared to a bong. These are mostly handheld, pocket sized accessories that are extremely portable and are perfect if you are looking for something to take along with you on the go. Daily smokers who enjoy their tokes in nature may want to consider buying a dry pipe. The smoke is a bit harsher from this since there is no water involved. These can be in a multitude of shapes, but all have the same features. Most have a tube design with a bowl attached to one end along with a small hole that you have to hold so that you can inhale all the smoke. There is also a small hole on the other side for you to inhale.

A Dry Bong (Steamroller)

A dry bong is much bigger than your usual pipe. These are bongs that are used without any water. These are usually not very popular since this can be extremely harsh on your throat and lungs. Unless have no water at all, it is generally not a good idea to hit a bong dry. Steamrollers are specifically made to not use water, but it does result in a much harsher smoking experience.

A Water Pipe (Bong)

This might sound confusing, but a water pipe is also known as a water bong. Any smoking device that uses water for its filtration system is a water pipe. This allows you to draw smoke through water so that it can cool down before it reaches your mouth. It is important to get a durable one since these are quite expensive. A ton of users recommend zong water pipe since these are quite durable and long-lasting. Any bong, bubbler, gravity bong, water pipe or pipe bong is a water pipe since there is water involved in the filtration system.

Bong vs Bubbler

A bubbler offers the best of both worlds. It is a cross between a bong and a dry pipe. These are usually much smaller than a bong and look like a hand pipe. Bubblers aren’t that easy to clean since they have a fixed down stem that you cannot remove. However, they still offer a much smoother hit than a dry pipe, in addition to being just as portable.

It is important to gain clarity about what you are choosing to smoke out of. Be well informed so that you can make a decision that suits your needs.
